Macrolophus pygmaeus

A hemipteran predator that predominantly inhabits solanaceous plants. It exhibits remarkable efficacy in controlling infestations of whiteflies and Tuta. Both the juvenile and adult stages of Macrolophus actively feed on prey. The female deposits its eggs within the leaf tissue. As a generalist predator, it has the capacity to consume a wide variety of prey, including lepidoptera eggs, spider mites, aphids, etc. rendering it a valuable asset for preventive biological control programs. The release of these predators during the flowering period is necessary for ensuring a good establishment. At 25°C, it completes its life cycle in approximately 30 days.
